Machine Control Devices

Coastwide Civil has always been at the forefront of technology in relation to GPS Systems and surveying. Coastwide Civil was one of the first contractors to invest heavily in excavator, dozer and grader machine control devices and we are continually upgrading our fleet. Utilising these technologies in marine and underwater environments allows us to work to millimeter accuracies, increasing productivity, maneuverability and reducing construction times. We have a vast fleet of GPS machinery including standard and longreach excavators, dozers and millimetre accuracy graders.

Having our machines fitted with Topcon 3D GPS systems allows us to operate underwater, essentially giving us eyes underwater and removing the need for expensive, conventional marine construction methods like coffer dams. Machines are capable of operating to 30mm tolerance on land or in water.

Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)

GNSS refers to a constellation of satellites providing signals from space; transmitting positioning and timing data. We have trained and experienced staff who operate theodolites and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). This equipment allows us to provide clients with accurate and up to date surveys, which is presented using Topcon software such as Magnet or 3D-Office.

ASCTEC Falcon 8 Multi Rotor Drone

For some time now, Coastwide Civil has had a robotic multi-rotor drone helicopter, the AscTec Falcon 8, which delivers highly flexible aerial imaging and mapping solutions. This enables us to capture data at the most difficult to reach locations, from a variety of angles and at close range. The AscTec Falcon 8 is a high-tech micro Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) with flexible camera and sensing options to suit any application. Our use of the AscTec Falcon 8 is to conduct daily stockpile volume reports across the site. This drone is perfect for conducting small aerial surveys.

MAVINCHI Sirius Pro Fixed Wing Drone

For some time now, we have also had a fixed wing MAVINCHI Sirius Pro drone. We use this device for site-wide end of month surveys for the boat harbour project, subdivisions and road projects. This drone is perfect for conducing long and comprehensive surveys that cover large areas.

DJI Phantom 4 Pro Multi Rotor Drone

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro robotic multi-rotor drone helicopter is our newest aerial survey addition. It is a cutting edge drone that is well suited to both small and large scale aerial surveys and we have already seen the potential of combining the survey data from this drone with out software.

Coastwide Civil was the first Civil Engineering company in New South Wales to operate some of these devices and it has greatly improved our surveying capabilities and productivity. We were required to have completed a CASA-approved Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) and we hold a valid Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) UAV Operators Certificate allowing us to legally operate our UAVs.

The Civil Contractors Federation has written two articles about Coastiwde Civil and our use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) technology at the Shelll Cove Boat Harbour. Click to read Article 1 or Article 2.
